Overview

Fenghuang Ancient Town lies in Xiangxi, Hunan Province, built in 1556 during the Ming Dynasty. Stilt houses line both banks of the Tuo River, with winding bluestone paths. This is the hometown of literary master Shen Congwen; his Border Town made this place famous worldwide. Fenghuang is most enchanting at night when ten thousand lights reflect on the Tuo River. The town blends Miao and Tujia minority cultures with exquisite silver jewelry, batik, and embroidery. Traditional festivals like Miao Siyueba and Harvest Festival are spectacular.
