Overview

Mount Heng in Hengyang, Hunan, is the Southern Mountain among China's Five Sacred Mountains. The main peak Zhurong stands at 1,300m, known for its elegance. The mountain is a Buddhist sanctuary with numerous temples; Nanyue Temple is the largest ancient building complex south of the Yangtze. It uniquely hosts both Buddhism and Taoism. The ever-changing clouds and mist create 'Hengshan Clouds', a famous spectacle. Winter rime ice is breathtaking. Hengshan is also known for 'longevity culture' — 'may you live as long as the Southern Mountain' refers to Mount Heng.
