Mianyang in northwestern Sichuan Basin is the province's second city. It's China's only 'Science City' due to its concentration of defense research institutions. Yet its cultural depth is equally profound — Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai was born in Mianyang's Jiangyou. Yuewang Tower is one of the four great towers of Tang Dynasty, hailed as 'the premier poetry tower under heaven'.
