Overview

Mianyang in northwestern Sichuan Basin is the province's second city. It's China's only 'Science City' due to its concentration of defense research institutions. Yet its cultural depth is equally profound — Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai was born in Mianyang's Jiangyou. Yuewang Tower is one of the four great towers of Tang Dynasty, hailed as 'the premier poetry tower under heaven'. Mianyang rice noodles are the soul of Sichuan breakfast — fine silky noodles in red broth with intestines and bamboo shoots. Beichuan showcases unique Qiang ethnic culture.
