Mohe漠河

China's NorthernmostAurora ViewingExtreme ColdArctic Village

Overview

Mohe lies at the northern foot of the Greater Khingan Mountains, China's northernmost city facing Russia across the Amur River. Arctic Village is China's northernmost settlement, with the northernmost post office, school, and sentry post. Mohe is the only place in China where auroras can occasionally be seen. Even without auroras, the extreme cold and star-filled skies are breathtaking. Vast birch forests turn into a winter wonderland. Around the summer solstice, the 'white night' phenomenon means the sun barely sets. The journey from Harbin to Mohe is a magnificent trip through forests and snowfields.
