Overview

Wuhan is the largest city in central China, known as the 'thoroughfare of nine provinces'. Yellow Crane Tower is one of the three famous towers south of the Yangtze. Wuhan University's cherry blossom avenue is a famous viewing spot every late March. Hot-dry noodles are one of China's five great noodle dishes. Hubei Museum houses the Marquis Yi of Zeng bell set and King Goujian's sword.

China's largest urban lake, 33 km², 6 times larger than Hangzhou West Lake. Greenway is 102km long, great for cycling.

Food & Snacks

Hot-dry Noodles

Wuhan's most famous snack, alkaline noodles with sesame paste, radish cubes and pickled beans. Cailinji is the century-old famous shop. Must eat hot.

Doupi (Tofu Skin Wrap)

Wuhan breakfast specialty, tofu skin wrapped around glutinous rice, diced pork and shrimp, pan-fried. Laotongcheng is the famous old shop.

Wuchang Fish

Braised Wuchang fish is a famous Hubei dish. Mao Zedong wrote 'I just drank Changsha water, now eat Wuchang fish'. Tender, few bones.

• Han Opera (2006) — Major Hubei opera genre, formed in Qing dynasty, important precursor to Peking Opera, national intangible heritage since 2006.
