Overview

Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture is in eastern Jilin Province, bordering North Korea and Russia. It is China's largest Korean community. Yanji, the prefectural capital, is nationally famous for Korean cuisine: cold noodles (naengmyeon), rice cakes (tteok), grilled skewers, and ginseng chicken soup are must-tries. Changbai Mountain's Heaven Lake is one of China's ten famous mountains with stunning blue water and sky. Fangchuan Village at the China-Russia-North Korea tripoint offers 'three countries in one glance'. Yanbian's Korean culture is deep, with traditional clothing, dance, and architecture full of charm. World & Intangible Heritage

• Korean Farmers' Dance (Nongak) (2009) — Inscribed as UNESCO Intangible Heritage in 2009. Farmers' Dance is a traditional Korean dance featuring sangmo hat spinning, janggu drumming and group dancing, expressing the joy and solidarity of farm life.
• Korean Plank Springing and Swinging (2008) — Listed as National Intangible Heritage in 2008. Plank springing is a traditional Korean women's sport where two players alternately bounce on a board; swinging is a festive recreational activity for women showcasing skill and grace.
• Korean Sangmo (Hat Dance) (2006) — Listed as National Intangible Heritage in 2006. Sangmo Hat Dance is a core part of Korean Farmers' Dance. Dancers wear hats with long ribbons and spin their heads while drumming, making the ribbons draw beautiful arcs in the air.
